We made ACE for today’s web. We believe:
Content shouldn't be comprised of opaque, un-parsable blobs. Instead it should be structured in meaningful chunks. Once structured, content can then be visually formatted for any endpoint: web, mobile device, tablet, and so forth. Additionally there should be a clear way to specify why content is relevant to other content. Content should be stored in a way where its meaning is discernable.
Even good content in front of the wrong audience is useless, and potentially harmful to their user experience. Online content should be smart: it should be shown to the right people at the right time. Content should respect the context of its audience.
You know your business and you know your content. That’s why ACE isn’t a black box that mysteriously processes your content without your input. Instead it’s designed from the ground up to amplify your expertise.
With ACE, content is published through Content Channels. Content Channels allow you to automate your publishing policy, using any mix of curated, related, personalized, or random content that you wish. Content Channels publish structured content through an API that can be accessed by your website or app. Need to change that policy? You can reconfigure it with a couple of clicks – no programming changes required.
ACE's Content Types define the structure of content. A Content Type is made up of any number of discrete fields, with each field having a data type. In addition to simple field types like strings, integers and floating point values, you can define more advanced field types such as URLs, links to other content items and lists of pre-defined options.
Content Types also let you define saliency for fields. Saliency determines why different content items are relevant to each other. By setting a high saliency value for a field, you can indicate that two content items with matching values for that field are highly relevant to each other. With saliency you, the expert, define an overall relevancy model for your content, specifying what’s important for related or personalized content.
ACE is built to integrate with other systems from the ground up. Are you comitted to an existing CMS? That’s okay. It can be integrated with ACE. ACE can also integrate with existing search engines, ad networks and web technologies such as Rails, Django and PHP. Finally, you can get your content out whenever you want. We think you will continue to use us because we’re solving your problems, not because we have your data trapped.
For each Content Type you define a Workflow, comprised of any number of steps that you choose. Workflow steps can be used to present content for review by your team (for authoring, copy-editing, legal review, etc.), to automatically process content (auto-tagging, summarization, etc.) and for deployment (staging, production, etc.). You can even use Workflow to integrate ACE with an external system during the publishing process. Workflow lets you customize ACE to fit your specific publishing process.
